Think of it as a compromise, seeing as how I had to work on Wataru’s request and these costumes at the same time. When Wataru cleared his throat and said ‘I can’t do this alone’, of course I was compelled to lend a hand.

Boys like you are right to be concerned. But while it’s true that you kind of swept us up in things, I was never against the idea. My favorite kind of doll is one inspired by the Victorian era, but it was enjoyable to look more into the tradition of Japanese dolls and create a costume based on that.

  1. this is a common saying by ghosts/monsters in Japanese folklore
  2. an onryō is a type of vengeful spirit
  3. foxes (or kitsune) are very big in Japanese folklore, and one of the stories about them is that it’s possible for them to shape-shift into humans, so this is likely where the ‘magic’ association with Switch comes from.
  4. [Brackets] are Mademoiselle talking.
  5. it’s not expressly stated in this chapter, but Mika is very likely a hinnagami, a cursed doll spirit that exists only to grant the wishes of its master and whose devotion is so strong they will often follow their masters even in death. If you’ve read the 'Magical Halloween' event story, Mika says something very similar to this to Shu, so the concept of hinnagami suits him rather well.
