Starting from 9th November 2025, 1:00 AM UTC, we will start updating all pages and files containing "Oogami" and rename them to use "Ogami" (the official romanization). This process is expected to take a few days. During this time, some pages and files may appear broken (red links), but they should show correctly after the process is finished.

Hitsugi is a second-year transfer student in the Production Course at Yumenosaki Academy. Though he loves to chat, he often finds it difficult to keep up with conversations involving long sentences or complex discussions.[1][2]

I'm Hitsugi Kurone! I was looking for you. I thought to grant a wish of yours to show my gratitude. What I mean by that is... Ah~! Wah~! What was I talking about again?![1]

Quick Answers

Is Hitsugi Kurone a girl? toggle section
Despite his feminine appearance, Hitsugi Kurone is not a girl. He is often mistaken as a girl by the cast due to his appearance and due to students having first met his older sister, NEGI, whom he shares a body with. Hitsugi will typically wear Yumenosaki Academy's male uniform, while NEGI will typically change into a Yumenosaki Academy female uniform.

Is Hitsugi Kurone an idol? toggle section
Hitsugi Kurone is not an idol, and instead is enrolled in Yumenosaki Academy's Producer Course. He is a brand new student entering in his second year. He is notably disliked by the Producer Course's "Peace Party", in addition to Anzu. They got to know each other as they were both persecuted.

Are Hitsugi Kurone and NEGI the same person? toggle section
No, while they share a body, Hitsugi Kurone and NEGI are two different people. Hitsugi identifies NEGI to be his deceased older sister, who he has summoned into his body. Compared to NEGI, he acts like a scatter-brain, is a chatter-box, and lacks social tact. He often neglects his own academic duties, resulting in NEGI having to handle important matters in place of him. They are rarely co-conscious, with one being "asleep" while the other is awake. They typically communicate with each other through diary entries on their phone.

Appearance[]

Hitsugi is of short stature with an equally small build. His hair is dark brown and falls just past his shoulders, seemingly unstyled. His eyes are a bright yellow. He wears the men's Yumenosaki uniform, notable features of which being the blue tie denoting that he is a second year, the white vest he wears, and the first two buttons of his shirt being undone.

Personality[]

Hitsugi is a rather loud person who often says whatever is on his mind without little thought beforehand, even screaming for seemingly no reason. Hitsugi will mention when he doesn't understand something, and often talks about his "Onee-chan" who handles things he can not. Due to him constantly getting confused, he tends to talk a lot without much clarity. After hearing someone's name, he will give them a nickname such as "Shinohaji" for Hajime. His awareness of social situations is nearly nonexistent, and he often brings up taboo topics like death and necromancy as if they were normal. Despite everything, he is shown to be kind in his own way by offering to grant the wishes as a form of thanks to those who have helped him.

Spoilers:

Beneath his facade of a ditz who doesn't know better, Hitsugi is deep down cold and vengeful, with an intense fixation of hatred for his father, Priest. It's revealed that while he adopted the facade of a clueless person to appear more harmless, his confusion and memory problems were genuine; a result of brain damage after inhaling smoke from a prolonged period of time during a building fire.

Etymology[]

Family[]

For more information, see Hitsugi Kurone/Family.

Hitsugi's father is Priest, and his older sister is NEGI. Hitsugi was raised unconventionally by his family, born for the sole purpose of being an heir. He was raised separately from his sister, and was never allowed any chance to make his own friends. As a result, he clung to his sister as she was the only person who loved him, despite them rarely having time to see each other.

Trivia[]

  • NEGI is the name of the "Onee-chan" Hitsugi talks of, both her and Hitsugi share the same body yet are shown to be separate people.
    • NEGI mentioned that when Hitsugi is "awake" she is not, and she can not remember what happens when Hitsugi is awake without taking the time to "search" for the information in her head.[3]
    • NEGI prefers to wear the women's Yumenosaki uniform rather than the men's one Hitsugi wears.
    • Despite sharing the same body, they are unable to talk directly with each other, and instead communicate through their phone via diary entries.
      • An exception to this is shown in Blackjack, where NEGI communicates with Hitsugi by writing on paper while Hitsugi is conscious.
    • While Hitsugi says only good things about NEGI, often at times NEGI only has negative things to say about him.
  • Hitsugi mentions Gatekeeper when talking to Hajime, claiming that Gatekeeper has praised NEGI for her necromancy skills.

Commentary[]

Main Scenario Writer's Comments[]

"Since Uncle Gatekeeper was designed clearly to be a Gatekeeper no matter how you viewed him, I designed him (and her?) as an "opponent that approaches you with the face of an ally". And so initially, I had planned for them to simply be defeated as evils and die, but... As voices for those who have been discarded as "unnecessary", it felt too cruel to just pretend that they didn't exist." —Akira (Official Works, Artbook)[4]
