Intricate Trends
1 Episode 1 Spring
The story is set in the 2nd year since ES's establishment, early May. Aira and Tori are finishing up some after-school Student Council work when Tori suggests the two of them go out together the next day to try a new restaurant, as a treat. The next day, they do exactly that, going out to spend time together and Tori reveals that being Student Council President has been adding extra stress to his life, as has fine work, so this was a good opportunity to unwind. Aira says that Tori should be more open about these things, but Tori denies it, saying he doesn't want people to worry. The two are greeted by Rinne and Rei, who reveal that they occasionally go out for drinks with one another and were on their way to do exactly that when they met. Aira and Tori are eating açaí na tigela (or simply acai bowls) when Rinne comments that the array of finely cut fruit makes it look like bird food. Aira and Tori appear shocked that Rinne's never heard of acai bowls as they're quite trendy, to which Rei is caught off guard and says he thought tapioca was currently trendy. As it turns out, tapioca went out of fashion recently, which leaves Rei at a loss. The juniors remark on how out-of-touch their seniors are, before eventually parting ways.
2 Episode 2 Spring
Rei and Rinne are at a bar together, and Rei is still distressed by the fact that tapioca is no longer popular, to which Rinne points out that trends are decided by corporations to wring money out of people by deciding what should be bought. The two manage to get a seat together at the bar's counter, as it's quite crowded due to it being a holiday, and Rei spots Leo. Rinne is surprised that Leo is at a bar, as he's under the impression Leo is too young to drink, but Rei remembers that it's Leo's birthday. Leo says he wasn't able to celebrate with Knights for work reasons, so he came to the bar hoping to feel like an adult and perhaps gain inspiration. Rinne says he'll teach Leo how to drink, but after several minutes, Leo has out-drank both Rei and Rinne with little to no side effects. The elder two are surprised that Leo can hold his liquor and Rinne excuses himself to step outside and sober up, when both he and Rei get a message on HoldHands about a work opportunity.
3 Episode 3 Spring
The next day, Tori, Aira, Anzu, and Rei are gathered in an ES meeting room to discuss the work opportunity that was brought up. Rinne is running late, to Tori's chagrin, and Aira suggests that he's hungover. It doesn't take long for Rinne to show up, saying that he slept in by accident, and that he'd originally planned for today to be empty so he apologizes half-heartedly for the fact that he was drinking the day before, saying that he wouldn't have done it if he had been informed of this in advance. The five of them talk about the opportunity; It's for an event that discusses the latest and up-and-coming trends, and many examples are given, such as Dubai chocolate and flat croissants. Anzu excuses herself after giving the briefing, in which it's stated that the four of them were asked for very deliberately. Rinne and Rei appear just as unaware of recent trends as they were the other day, and Rei suggests that Tori and Aira teach them about what's trendy, since all four of them have the day off.
4 Episode 4 Spring
Still in the ES meeting room, Tori and Aira begin to test Rinne and Rei on their knowledge of trends. One such example is a cat video that Aira brings up. Rinne knows what he's talking about, but Rei asks if he's referring to Dora*mon (Doraemon), earning the shock and disapproval of everybody. Tori wonders if Rei even lives in the same era as them, to which he replies that he's not good with technology and has only recently gotten the hang of the internet. The juniors figure out that their seniors are useless when it comes to fashion or music-related trends, but are passable on some other things. Tori asks if they watch short videos in their free time, and Rei says he would rather read due to his tech illiteracy, while Rinne says he'd prefer to be gambling than doing something that doesn't earn him even a penny to be doing. Rinne suggests that it's simply a difference in how adults play compared to young people, and Tori asks what he did in his high school years. Rinne says that he didn't attend high school, but that around the time he would've, he had run away from home and was living with Niki while pursuing his dream of becoming an idol. He points out that Rei actually attended high school, to which Rei responds that he was frequently abroad for his early high school years. Aira asks if it's true that Rei was something of a womanizer, and a very scandalized Rei denies this, asking who told him such a thing. Aira says Eichi told him, and also that he mentioned how Rei used to act as an "ore-sama" type of character before the way he currently is. Rei shuts this down, explaining that the womanizer allegations likely come from Kaoru's playboy attitude. Tori scolds Aira for getting off track, and the two juniors resolve to teach their seniors about the current trends.
5 Episode 5 Spring
Now on a street full of stores, Tori is taking them on a small tour of all the clothing shops in the area, which appears to be boring Rinne. He says they're only window-shopping, and Tori points out that window-shopping is fun. The four of them discuss fashion and Rinne appears flippant towards it, saying that he doesn't see much of a point to picking out your day-to-day clothes so meticulously, and Rei agrees to an extent. The two of them say that they'll pick clothes off mannequins quite frequently, and Rei says that he's sometimes asked by salespeople to try on new outfits when modeling to himself, to which Aira points out that he's being used as a living mannequin due to his good figure. Rei says that he doesn't mind, and even suggests Aira dress him up in that manner, so Aira very enthusiastically begins to grab clothes for Rei to try on. Tori asks if he can do the same for Rinne, which Rinne denies, saying that he'd rather choose clothes for Tori instead. Tori is apprehensive, saying there's a good chance it'll end up lame, but Rinne insists and begins to choose clothes that he remembers being popular in the past. Aira wonders if he's choosing out-of-style things on purpose, but he doesn't have much time to wonder, as Rei interrupts by showing Tori some punk-style clothes and suggesting those instead. Tori disagrees vehemently, saying that punk is definitely not trendy anymore, and Rei is upset, claiming punk is timeless.
6 Episode 6 Spring
After a while, the four of them go to a karaoke lounge to test Rinne and Rei's knowledge of trendy music. Rinne remarks that he's tired from being used as a dress-up doll of sorts, and Tori retorts that he was put through the same thing, with un-trendy clothes no less. Rinne insists those clothes he showed Tori will one day become trendy again, but Tori doesn't believe him. The four begin karaoke, but after a couple of hours, Rinne and Rei reveal that they've been floundering and don't actually know most of the songs that have been played so far. Rinne says that he looked for songs he knew, and that they used to be popular, but no longer come anywhere close to the top ten most popular songs according to the karaoke machine. Aira hears something in the other room, and it sounds like someone singing, so he bursts in to find Chiaki doing tokusatsu poses while singing along with the opening themes of his favorite songs. Chiaki reveals that he's been there for quite some time, and that he had invited the rest of RYUSEITAI and wonders where they are. He says they told him they would come 'if they could', which Tori says is code for 'it's not happening'. Chiaki denies this and checks his phone to see if anyone replied to him, to find that everyone except Shinobu said they couldn't make it about an hour ago. Shinobu responds with an affirmative just as Chiaki is checking, but he realizes that his time with the room is over, so he can't actually sing with Shinobu. The other four say that their time is also up, so they leave Chiaki to his own devices and begin to leave.
7 Episode 7 Spring
On their way through the downtown area as the sun is setting, the four are chased down by Chiaki, who asks if he can walk back to the dorms with them, if that's the direction they're going. Tori and Aira explain their plan to test the trend knowledge of their seniors and Tori expresses disappointment that they only got to tackle fashion and songs, so Chiaki suggests that they grab food on the way back to the dorms. They all get acai bowls, which Chiaki recognizes, and Rei calls him a traitor for not being out-of-the-loop as well. Rinne expresses surprise that Chiaki was up-to-date, and Chiaki says that it's because he's conscious of his health that he knew about such a healthy food. Rinne says he thought Chiaki was only into tokusatsu, which Chiaki denies, saying he also reads in his spare time. Rei asks if that's how he heard of acai bowls, and Chiaki explains that he just happened to see something about them on the news. The five of them enjoy their acai bowls together, with Rinne and Rei pleasantly surprised by the flavor of it all. Rinne begins to scheme internally, which is noticed by Aira and Tori, who accuse him of having an evil look on his face. He denies it, but internally, he's started planning on a way to make acai bowls for cheap at the event tomorrow and sell them for a profit, making him money that he can then spend at pachinko.
8 Episode 8 Spring
Two days later, the day after the event, Rinne is at a bar with Niki, giving him copious amounts of fruit. Niki is gleeful to be given so much food from Rinne of all people, but Rinne is irritable, telling Niki to stop talking and continue eating. Rei happens upon the two and Rinne explains that he got cleared to bring the food in by the manager, so it's fine. He offers Rei some fruit to accompany his drinks as the three of them begin to chat a little, and Rinne reveals that it's the leftover fruit from his plan to sell acai bowls to everyone at the event yesterday. He says that he got permission from the event coordinator to sell them, but that not many people bought his acai bowls, leaving him ultimately at a pretty big loss due to how much fruit he had leftover. Rei is amused, saying that it's because acai is already a well-known trend, and that not many people care for something that's been established. Niki laughs and says that if it were that easy to take advantage of the trends, chefs wouldn't have to work as hard as they do. It soon cuts to Aira and Tori walking down the street together after some more Student Council work, when the two of them spot a fashion magazine that's foretelling the autumn/winter trends. Tori buys it and they look through it, only to be shocked by the contents. It claims that punk fashion, and whatever Rinne was showing Tori, will be popular soon. The two of them are at a loss for a moment before agreeing that they'll cut down on how liberally they call others un-trendy, and resolve to apologize to Rinne and Rei for their harsh judgement a few days prior.
